What is Vision Therapy?
-
Vision therapy is a customized, non-surgical approach designed to improve how the eyes and brain work together. It helps treat problems that affect reading, learning, attention, and everyday life—even if you have “20/20” vision. It’s not about seeing clearly, it’s about seeing efficiently

-
Common conditions treated: Any type of binocular vision problem including Convergence Insufficiency, Strabismus (eye turn), and Amblyopia (lazy eye). Other conditions include visual/sensory processing delays, learning-related vision problem, ADHD

-
Who can benefit from vision therapy? Children or adults struggling with reading, learning, or attention, as well as athletes, patients who have had a TBI (traumatic brain injury), or anyone experiencing visual discomfort or inefficiency regardless of age.
Evidence-Based Applications of Vision Therapy
1. Convergence Insufficiency (CI)
Vision therapy has demonstrated strong efficacy in treating CI, particularly in both children and adults:
-
A randomized clinical trial found that office-based vision therapy significantly improved symptoms in children with CI. optometrists.org
-
In adults, a study showed that combined in-office and home-based vision therapy was more effective than home therapy alone or no treatment. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
2. Amblyopia
-
In adults with amblyopia, perceptual vision therapy enhanced both visual acuity and contrast sensitivity. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24376340/.

3. Quality of Life Improvements
-
A study using the College of Optometrists in Vision Development Quality of Life checklist (COVD-QOL) found significant improvements in symptoms among children aged 7–18 after undergoing vision therapy. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12365672/.
